Hier einfach mal deine Schlüsselnummern eingeben!

Was hast du für ein Bauhjahr!?
Benziner Diesel?

Hello Ian

I don't know if the british and german paperwork and the key numbers are comparable.
So checking it online might not work.

The best contact partner for you is probably the "Straßenverkehrsamt" (road traffic licensing department) of the town where you wish to register the car.
Or maybe the appropiate TÜV (technical inspection authority)

But as Pologti64 said, if your car is running on Benzin it will almost certainly receive the green badge.
If it is a diesel you might need to backfit a particle filter in order to get a badge and even then it might only be the red or the yellow one.

Further information in english about the badge-system and in which towns it is used you will find here:

Good luck!

thanks to you all for such quick answers, specially blecky who's english is excellent.

Thanks again, Ian......
P.S. What is "Dinner for one"?

hello,

in my opinion a right hand driven car would not be very comfortable to drive in a country with left hand driven cars. just imagine this situation: you're on a road and there's a tractor driving ahead of you. you're sitting on the right side, and if you're trying to pass it, you need to look, if there are other cars from the other direction. but to see them, you have to drive on the left side of the road. if there's another car at that moment, you will cause an accident. would you ike to get into such a dangerous situation ?

so maybe selling your landrover and buying a left hand driven car here in germany could be a better option.
the taxes for diesel powered cars are very high. of course the insurance costs more too. sometimes the same car, equipped with a gasoline engine, can be four times cheaper than a diesel.

Depending on where you live, the badge system might be irrelevant to you. You only need these badges when you intend to enter a green zone with your car.
The worrying issue is indeed the taxation. Be prepared to pay a multitude of what you are used to. Also, the insurance premiums are about twice of what they are in the UK. And your UK non-claims bonus might not be accepted, so you could end up starting from square one.

The disadvantages of driving a RHD on the continent (or vice versa) are way overrated. I enjoy driving my LHD yank in the UK as much, as driving my RHD Rover in Europe. The disadvantages of having the steering wheel on the 'wrong' side are negligible in normal traffic. The only real disadvantage is that insurances charge you about 10% extra for it.

Also, don't forget that your headlamps need to be converted to right-dip units and you need an illuminated switch and a red control lamp for the four-way hazard flasher, if your Landy isn't so equipped yet.

Hi Ian and thank you for the compliments on my english.

Maybe the company itself could give you an all out answer?
Such as which key numbers your car would get in Germany and if it is essential to get the particle filter in order to meet the requirements for the badge etc.

Here are the contact dates for the german customer service:

Land Rover Kundenbetreuung
Phone: +49 1805 / 26 32 72
Fax: +49 (0) 221 / 9 03 30 81
E-Mail: lrhilfe@jaguarlandrover.com

And the mailing address:

Land Rover Deutschland GmbH
Am Kronberger Hang 2a
D- 65824 Schwalbach / Ts.

And Janner is certainly right - sitting "on the wrong side of the car" may be a bit tricky sometimes.

And the taxes on an 2,7 litre diesel are quite high as well!
I can't recall the exact numbers right now, but in the worst case (depending on the emission-classification of your car) it was something about 27,30 Euros per 100cm³, which would be ca. 730 Euros annually.

I guess you will find out that there is an easy way and a german way.... 😉))

Good luck again,

Blecky
